Toronto -3½ -110 over Winnipeg

1:00 PM EST. The Halloween playoff doubleheader opens with a cold-weather ground fight at BMO Field, and the whole game comes down to one question: can Winnipeg protect whoever is playing quarterback? Toronto gets after the passer better than anybody in the league, and Winnipeg has had trouble keeping its quarterback upright all season. That is a bad combination in a win-or-go-home game.

And Winnipeg does not even know who its quarterback is. Zach Collaros took an illegal hit to the ribs in the finale in Vancouver and spent the week sidelined from full contact, while Dru Brown took the first-team reps. Brown came off the bench in that finale and played beautifully, but that was relief work. Starting a playoff game on the road, against the league's best pass rush, with a banged-up starter or a backup, is a different job entirely. Toronto has its own injury question in Chad Kelly, who hurt his knee late in the year and missed the finale, but he practiced without a brace and took all the first-team reps this week, and Nick Arbuckle is a proven insurance policy behind him.

Then there is Brady Oliveira, who is Winnipeg's whole game plan. The Bombers want to run it, shorten the game, and keep Kelly's passing attack on the sideline. That works until Toronto stacks the box and dares Winnipeg to throw, and the moment the Bombers fall behind the chains, the pass rush pins its ears back. Toronto is at home, healthier at the position that matters most, and laying only 3½ in a playoff game. The winner goes to Montreal next week.
