NBA Play Off series Game 3

Detroit Leads the Series 2-0

3:00 PM EST. Detroit heads into Game 3 looking every bit like the more composed and complete team in this series, and there’s little reason to step in front of them catching points. The Pistons have now won five straight games overall and continue to dominate with defense, physicality, and effort on the glass. Through the first two games, Detroit has held Cleveland under 100 points per contest while forcing turnovers at a relentless rate, which has completely disrupted the Cavaliers’ offensive rhythm. Cade Cunningham has controlled the pace of the series, attacking mismatches and creating quality looks late in possessions, while Detroit’s supporting cast has consistently outworked Cleveland in the hustle areas that often decide playoff games. The Pistons also finished the regular season ranked near the top of the league defensively, and that identity is translating perfectly into postseason basketball.

Cleveland’s offense simply hasn’t looked comfortable against Detroit’s length and pressure. Donovan Mitchell has produced scoring numbers, but far too much of the Cavaliers’ offense has become isolation-heavy and predictable once possessions break down. The Cavaliers shot barely 42 percent from the floor in Game 2 and managed just seven made three-pointers despite playing on their home floor. That’s becoming a troubling pattern against a Pistons defense that leads the league in forcing turnovers and consistently closes out well on shooters. Detroit has also done an excellent job limiting second-chance opportunities while controlling tempo, forcing Cleveland into slower half-court possessions where the Cavs have struggled to create efficient looks.

The pressure now shifts entirely onto Cleveland, and that’s not necessarily a positive for a team that has been shaky against the number all season long. Detroit has thrived as an underdog because it travels well defensively and rarely beats itself with careless basketball. The Pistons have covered eight straight games as road underdogs against Eastern Conference opponents, and they’ve shown throughout this series they aren’t intimidated by Cleveland’s home court. The Cavaliers may still find a way to survive this game behind desperation and shot-making, but asking them to suddenly win comfortably against the hotter and more disciplined team feels dangerous. Detroit continues to offer value catching points in a matchup where it has looked like the superior side for most of the series
