San Antonio -1½ +110 Games over New York

We're also going to play San Antonio -1½ games in the series at +110. In other words, if the Spurs win this series in six games or fewer, we cash. If the series goes seven games or the Knicks win it outright, we lose. That's a risk we're more than willing to take at this price.

The market has become completely infatuated with the New York Knicks. It's understandable. They've been an ATM machine for bettors, covering 10 of their last 11 games and winning playoff games by enormous margins. Every time the Knicks step on the floor, they seem to cash another ticket. The problem is that oddsmakers know this too. Public enthusiasm eventually gets baked into the price, and that's exactly what we're seeing now.

The Knicks deserve credit for their run, but they're getting far too much of it. Their path to the Finals was considerably softer than San Antonio's, and now they're being priced as though they're on the same level as the Spurs. We don't buy it. San Antonio came through a far more difficult Western Conference bracket and knocked off Oklahoma City, one of the league's elite teams. The Spurs have already proven themselves against championship-caliber opposition.

At plus money, we're getting a favorable return on what we believe is the superior team. If San Antonio is much better than New York as we think they are, then asking them to win this series in six games or less is not an unreasonable expectation. The Knicks have had a tremendous run, but the market has pushed their stock to unsustainable levels. We'll gladly fade the hype and back the Spurs both in Game 1 and in the series..
