Philadelphia +155 over Carolina
NHL Play Off series Game 4
Carolina Leads the Series 3-0
6:00 PM EST. This series suddenly feels over, which is exactly why the value swings toward Philadelphia Flyers in Game 4. Carolina Hurricanes have been excellent in terms of results, but the market is now treating this matchup like a complete mismatch, and it really hasn’t been.
Philadelphia has not been dominated. In Game 2, the Flyers were up 2-0 in Carolina with 10 minutes left and were in position to take control of the series before everything flipped late. In Game 3, the game was tied 1-1 entering the third period before Carolina scored a shorthanded goal that completely changed the night. A bounce here or there and we could easily be discussing a 2-1 Philadelphia series lead instead of a 3-0 Carolina lead.
That’s the danger of handicapping strictly from results in hockey. The NHL is the most volatile sport on the board. One deflection, one power-play swing, one hot goalie, and entire narratives change overnight. Carolina has gotten the bounces in this series and in the previous one against Ottawa too. They swept the Senators, but several of those games were razor tight and could have gone either way.
We also have to mention Frederik Andersen. Right now he’s stopping everything, and the market is reacting like he suddenly became Dominik Hasek in his prime. Over the course of his career, Andersen has had long stretches where things unravel quickly. He has been vulnerable in big moments for years, and it only takes one shaky night for confidence to disappear and the floodgates to open.
Meanwhile, Philadelphia enters this game with maximum urgency. Season on the line, home ice, backs against the wall — this is where teams throw everything into one game. You’ll see desperation, blocked shots, physical play, and players emptying the tank to extend the series another few days. Teams down 3-0 are dangerous because the pressure sits almost entirely on the favorite to finish the job.
Carolina absolutely deserves to be favored and will probably still win this series. That’s not the point. The point is the number. At +160, Philadelphia is being priced like they have almost no shot, and that simply doesn’t line up with how these games have actually played out. This series has been much closer than the standings suggest, and at this price, the Flyers are worth the gamble.
