Milwaukee +105 over New York

2:10 PM EST. There’s always risk backing a pitcher making his season debut after elbow surgery, and that’s where this handicap begins. Carlos Rodón (LHP – NYY) is talented, but he’s also coming off a significant layoff and didn’t exactly dominate during his rehab assignment. The velocity may be there, but command, rhythm, and consistency usually take time to return after missing that much action.

Rodón also enters a difficult spot right away. Yes, Milwaukee’s numbers against left-handed pitching have been weak this season, but early-season splits can be misleading, especially against a pitcher with workload uncertainty. Even if Rodón pitches well early, there’s a strong chance the Yankees monitor him closely, which means extra bullpen exposure.

On the other side, Logan Henderson (RHP – MIL) continues to impress. The strikeout numbers are excellent, the swing-and-miss stuff is real, and the command has been far better than expected for a young pitcher still establishing himself. The fastball doesn’t overpower hitters on velocity alone, but the spin and location make it play up.

The Yankees can obviously punish mistakes, but Henderson has shown an ability to avoid them. A 34% strikeout rate over his early MLB sample is no joke, and the changeup has become a legitimate out pitch. Even against a strong lineup, those are the types of arms worth backing at home.

This line is heavily influenced by the Yankees logo and Rodón’s name recognition. If Rodón was fully stretched out and coming in healthy and sharp, that would be different. Right now, there are too many unknowns surrounding his first start back.

Milwaukee gets the steadier arm entering the game and the plus price at home. That’s enough to make the Brewers the value side.
