New York +120 over Tampa Bay
Gerrit Cole (RHP - NYY, 4.07 ERA) Shane McClanahan (LHP - TB, 3.08 ERA)
6:40 PM EST. Same time, same place. We are jumping right back on the Yankees tonight, this matchup is much closer than the market may suggest. Gerrit Cole enters with a 4.07 ERA, and while those numbers aren't up to his usual Cy Young standard, his underlying performance has been stronger than the ERA indicates. Cole continues to miss bats at an above-average rate, limits free passes, and has the experience to elevate his game in marquee matchups. New York's lineup remains one of the most dangerous in baseball, combining patience with power, and it has the ability to manufacture offense even against elite pitching.
Tampa Bay counters with Shane McClanahan (LHP - TB, 3.08 ERA), one of the American League's premier left-handers. McClanahan has once again been outstanding, using a lively fastball and devastating secondary pitches to keep hitters off balance. Even so, the Yankees are one of the few lineups built to challenge top-tier southpaws. They feature several right-handed power bats capable of changing a game with one swing, and their patient approach can drive up pitch counts early, creating opportunities once Tampa Bay turns the game over to its bullpen.
The public is likely to gravitate toward Tampa Bay because of McClanahan's dominant numbers and home-field advantage, but baseball is rarely that simple. When you can get the Yankees at a reasonable road price with Gerrit Cole on the mound, it's a spot worth attacking. New York has the deeper lineup, the experience to handle high-pressure games, and enough offensive firepower to break through even against an elite starter. If Cole delivers the quality outing he's capable of, the Yankees have every opportunity to steal this one on the road. Back New York to win outright in a matchup that's much more even than the odds imply.
