Athletics  +125 over Kansas CityGage Jump (LHP- Athletics) — 4.50 ERA

Randy Dobnak (RHP- Kansas City) — 1.69 ERA

2:10 PM EST. The surface numbers make this look like a clear advantage for Kansas City, but that is precisely where we trust the value begins. Randy Dobnak has posted a 1.69 ERA in his recent work, yet the underlying profile does not support treating him like a dominant starting pitcher. His current 2026 line is built around a modest strikeout rate, while the WHIP remains much less impressive than the ERA suggests. That combination tells us there has been some run-prevention fortune involved, and we are not prepared to pay a premium based solely on the scoreboard results.

Gage Jump gives the Athletics a much more interesting arm from a skills standpoint. The left-hander's current work has produced a 4.50 ERA, but his underlying indicators have been considerably more encouraging, including a 3.31 FIP and a 23.5% strikeout rate over his recent major-league sample. That strikeout ability is important here because Kansas City is facing a left-hander capable of generating swings and misses rather than simply relying on contact management. Jump's current profile suggests the ERA has not fully captured the quality of his pitching.

The matchup becomes particularly attractive when we consider what Dobnak's numbers are telling us beneath the 1.69 ERA. His recent success has come without an overwhelming strikeout rate, and that leaves considerably more dependence on balls being put into play. The Athletics have shown considerably more power recently, and that is the type of offensive profile we want facing a pitcher whose current ERA looks considerably better than his underlying indicators. We are much more interested in the 3.31 FIP and 23.5% strikeout rate attached to Jump than we are in simply comparing the two ERA figures.

We are taking Athletics on the road to beat Kansas City. Dobnak's ERA is going to attract plenty of attention, but the advanced numbers tell a different story, while Jump's strikeout ability and current FIP give us a much more credible pitching foundation than the 4.50 ERA suggests. This is exactly the type of matchup where we want to look beyond the surface numbers, and the underlying metrics point us toward Oakland.
