Carolina +3½ -105 over Jacksonville

1:00 PM ET. The Jaguars are being priced like stability has arrived, but the truth is they’re rolling out yet another new regime with Liam Coen making his head coaching debut. This is Jacksonville’s sixth full-time hire in 14 years. That’s not stability — that’s churn dressed up as optimism.

Coen’s credentials aren’t in question. He coordinated an offense in Tampa that pumped out nearly 400 yards a game and made Baker Mayfield look like a franchise quarterback. The market sees that and assumes he’ll do the same for Trevor Lawrence. Maybe he will. Maybe Lawrence rebounds after surgery and two down years. Maybe Travis Hunter is the NFL’s first successful two-way player in 60 years. Maybe. That’s a lot of maybes being baked into the Jags spotting a price.

What isn’t a maybe is the progress Carolina made under Dave Canales down the stretch last season. The Panthers opened 1-7, then went 4-5 over their last nine, with three of those losses by a single score. Bryce Young settled in, threw 12 TDs against three picks over his final eight starts, and actually looked like the quarterback he was drafted to be. Now he’s got Xavier Legette on one side, rookie Tetairoa McMillan on the other, and Year 3 reps under his belt. That’s not nothing. Carolina isn’t pretty. They’re still young, still thin in spots, still learning how to win. Yet they were scrappy late last year and they’ve got a coach who actually fits their roster. That’s more than Jacksonville can say at this point.
