Tampa Bay +125 over Boston

Jesse Scholtens (RHP - TB) has been one of the more underrated stories in Tampa Bay’s rotation during this early stretch of the season, and the Rays continue to cash tickets when he takes the mound. Scholtens enters this matchup with a 3-1 record, a 3.18 ERA, and excellent command numbers through his first several starts of the year. Tampa Bay has won seven straight games overall and 13 of its last 14 after taking the opener of this series at Fenway behind another explosive offensive performance. The Rays are doing what they’ve always done under pressure — grinding out quality at-bats, forcing mistakes on the bases, and getting strong pitching depth from top to bottom.

Connelly Early (LHP - BOS) has shown flashes for Boston, but this is still a difficult matchup for a young left-hander coming off his roughest outing of the season. Early was tagged for five earned runs over four innings in his last start while struggling to consistently finish hitters despite getting ahead in counts. Tampa Bay’s lineup has been especially dangerous against left-handed pitching because of its contact approach and lineup depth. Yandy Díaz continues to get on base at an elite clip, Junior Caminero is providing power in the middle of the order, and the Rays are applying constant pressure with aggressive baserunning. Boston’s pitching staff has also been stretched lately, and that becomes dangerous against a Tampa offense that rarely gives away at-bats once it gains momentum.

The value here sits with the hotter and more complete team. Tampa Bay already proved in the series opener it can win at Fenway even without its best stuff early, and the Rays continue to thrive in underdog spots because they consistently execute the small details better than most teams in baseball. Scholtens has given Tampa stability every fifth day, while Boston remains vulnerable when games become bullpen-heavy. The Rays are playing with confidence right now, the lineup is producing from top to bottom, and this feels like another spot where Tampa’s discipline and pitching depth give it the edge.
