Texas +125 over Houston

Cal Quantrill (RHP - Texas) – 2.45 ERA Hunter Brown (RHP -) – 3.41 ERA

8:05 PM EST. Texas has a favorable opportunity to open this home series behind Cal Quantrill, who has quietly been one of the Rangers' most reliable starters since joining the rotation. The right-hander enters with a sparkling 2.45 ERA and has consistently kept hitters off balance by limiting hard contact and working efficiently into the middle innings. Even in his most recent outing against Detroit, Quantrill gave Texas five solid innings while allowing just two earned runs. The Rangers have also been playing improved baseball, climbing back into the AL West race with timely hitting and strong pitching, and Globe Life Field has been a comfortable setting for them as they look to continue that momentum.

Hunter Brown has been excellent for much of the season, but there are signs he may still be working to regain his dominant form after returning from the injured list. Brown was tagged for six earned runs over four innings by Tampa Bay in his last start after allowing just four earned runs across 14.2 innings in his previous three outings. While his overall numbers remain impressive, Texas gets him at an ideal time after his roughest performance of the year. The Rangers have enough power throughout the lineup to capitalize if Brown's command isn't sharp early, especially with hitters like Jake Burger and Josh Jung capable of changing a game with one swing.

Texas owns the edge playing at home with the steadier recent form on the mound. Quantrill has done an outstanding job of keeping games under control, while Brown is coming off a confidence-shaking outing and faces a Rangers club that has been trending upward offensively. With Texas receiving quality starting pitching and home-field advantage, the Rangers are the preferred side to knock off their division rivals in the series opener.
