9:40 PM EST. This pitching matchup is much closer than the odds suggest. J.T. Ginn has been one of Oakland's better stories this season, posting a 3.15 ERA while giving the Athletics quality innings on a consistent basis. He has done an excellent job keeping the ball on the ground and limiting hard contact. That said, Ginn's underlying metrics suggest that maintaining an ERA this low may prove difficult over the long haul.

José Soriano enters with an outstanding 2.79 ERA, but his profile has generated significant debate among analysts. His walk rate remains high, and several advanced metrics project some regression. However, Soriano's ability to generate ground balls and escape trouble has become a recurring theme rather than a one-time occurrence. Through 87 innings, he has consistently found ways to limit damage against opposing lineups.

The Athletics have received significant market support recently thanks to improved play and several emerging young pitchers. That support may have gone a bit too far in this matchup. Soriano has been every bit as effective as Ginn this season, and the Angels possess enough offensive upside to take advantage of any regression that may be coming. Getting Los Angeles at a healthy underdog price in what looks like a near coin-flip game provides the value.
